yeah, you dont NEED to take protein shakes and powders etc.. all you need is a good number of meals a day and if you miss a meal, then a shake is good to take, thats why its called a supplement. Buy ya, if you want to bulk, have lots of meat and carbs (still include fruit, vegetables etc) and you can take a shake if you want to give your body more protein.. sleeping is also one of the most important when training cause your body needs time to recover after the workout, having a protein shake before going to sleep will also reduce muscle catabolism and help you recover faster.. but ya, listen to pursell, he knows what he is talking about :)
